Motivate- It’s a fact that we work better when we’re feeling motivated. Motives or “motivators” are what drive us, urge us forward, and give us reason or cause to act a certain way. And while seeking pleasure and avoiding pain are part of our design, what keeps us going when we’ve built some comfort and security for ourselves?

esonate- If you already know “What’s Holding You”- your WHY– why you maintain your professional standards of excellence, make sure it’s transferrable to any plan, any field of work. Many folks think they have a solid WHY until faced with challenges at home and in the workplace that leave them feeling far less than motivated. Then, they realize that what they thought were their WHYs were just interests- ways of making money and spending it- that had nothing to do with what truly inspires them. We’ve all been there. How do we recover from that? How do we find the fuel to fly again?

Educate– Let’s say you’ve enjoyed finding people homes and spending extra income on travel. It’s been great. Now, fast forward: you’ve finished traveling, have become independently wealthy, and possess all you require in order to live an abundant life.… What would make you leap out of bed and work (ANY type of work) for free? When we’re finding our WHY, these are the types of questions to ask ourselves:
•What’s the enduring reason you see yourself being motivated to accomplish all you have set before you?
•What is the lasting effect you wish to have on the places you travel and the clients you encounter?
•What would give you the most joy and fulfillment of your sense of purpose in your personal and professional life?

ctivate- We asked Maria Rosales and Victor Velasquez, Realtors with Empire Realty Associates, for their WHYs. Here’s what they shared: Being given the gift of making others smile and being able to consult with clients and colleagues on ways to change their mindsets- to see every situation as a positive learning experience- are methods of helping others about which Maria admits, “I’m all in.” Victor’s WHY is centered around his being convinced that it’s his personal responsibility to be an example of integrity in the industry for his Hispanic brothers and sisters, to teach them about real estate ownership, to assist them in avoiding being taken for a ride. Both of their WHYs encourage them to stay active, stay extraordinary, and stay ready for the next opportunity to be of service. How does your WHY do that for you?

iberate- When we’re interviewing new agents or interns, we’re interested in discovering what kind of difference they’d like to make. As a firm, we have to know- and so do all agents… all of us, really- that when the market downturns (as it’s forecasted to do right now) there’s an underlying motivation to keep pressing, keep flying and keep more-than-conquering it. Before we consider a candidate we’ve got to know their WHY- that enduring, everlasting energy source- that weathers every storm, obliterates every obstacle, and eliminates every excuse.

So, what’s your WHY? What would be a joy for you to give back to the world around you? How would you selflessly serve, support, and equip others if neither time nor money were factors?
